Sometimes when the weather is dull and bitter cold many of us tend to get in a style rut. I want to help you beat the winter blues and inspire you to rummage thru your hidden summer clothes bins. This time last year I showed you how to wear a sun dress in winter (Spring into Winter). This year I’m featuring maxi skirts.

I purchased this one I’m wearing below a year or so ago from Its straight size not plus. Its sheer and had the trendy high-low hemline. I love it, my favorite thing about it is the color.

The color works because its dark and rich, perfect for winter and fall but also spring and summer! Which makes it the perfect transitional piece. Check out the out deets below and how I styled it.

Deets Of The Look

  • Maxi Skirt| Forever 21
  • V Neck Top| Target Maternity
  • Jacket| Cabi Herringbone Wool Jacket
  • Belt| Evans (old)
  • Shoes| Ann Taylor Booties
  • Handbag| Henri Bendel (old)
  • Hosiery| Wolford (old)

The key to wearing a maxi skirt in colder weather is to layer everything. I chose to wear fun printed stockings here. However, if it was really cold I would wear 2 pairs of stockings or 1 pair of stockings and 1 pair of leggings. Yes Leggings.

You can also swap the v neck for a thin sweater or turtleneck. This way you can still wear a cool/interesting jacket atop the look. You can also just skip the jacket and rock a chunky knit sweater like I did here.

Lastly adding boots, high or low booties, adds winter appeal to any look.
